THROUGH THE UNPRPD PROJECT: Ending Stigma and Discrimination, Breaking the Cycle of Poverty and Marginalization of Persons with Disabilities. A Multicountry Programme
Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, implemented by UNESCO and ILO.
YoWDO Piloted the Audit Tool on
Understanding patterns of Stigma and Discrimination of Learners with Disabilities in TVET institutions. The tools piloted includes the inclusion survey for students, inclusion survey for instructors and the disability score card. Two TVET institutions were visited with more than 600 mixture of leaners.
With in the framework of the consultancy services, YoWDO was contracted by Sense International to conduct the labor market survey for youth with multiple disabilities in Four regions of Dodoma, Dar es salaam, Morogoro and Kilimanjaro.
The main objective of this assignment was to identify four major issues which are.
- Identify potential skills needed for employability of youth with complex disabilities,
- To review the curriculum of VETA to identify gaps and recommend the best ways to include the potential skills advised by the potential employers of youth with complex disabilities,
- to identify post-school needs and transitional support needs for of youth with complex disabilities for enhancing their employability in both formal and informal sectors and to assess the existing policies and identify potential collaboration between the government and private sector in enhancing the employability of youth with complex.
Trusted as the youth with disabilities serving organization, YoWDO was contracted by Sense International to conduct the leadership and advocacy training to youth with complex disabilities. The mentorship was also done to 12 Youth with deafblindness on leadership, advocacy, and entrepreneurship.
This mentorship
program was geared towards.
a) Building the confidence, self-awareness, and leadership capabilities
b) Providing platform for the mentees (YWDB) to advocate/ speak to the
government and community on their capabilities, challenges they face and
recommended solutions toward improving their livelihood.
c) Imparting them with business ethics, business management skills, and
entrepreneurship skills.
d) Facilitating the YWDB to access loans from the Local Government Authorities
(LGA) scheme.
